Michael Kojo Essien was born on December 3, 1982 in Accra, Ghana,. He was a soccer player who plays as a midfielder for AC Milan and Ghana national team.

Essien's professional soccer career began at Bastia in 2000 and played for the club for three seasons. In 2003, he joined Lyon. He won the Ligue 1 with Lyon for two seasons 2003-04 and 2004-05.

He then moved to Chelsea in 2005 and played for the club for nine seasons. However, in the 2012-2013 season Essien has been loaned to Real Madrid before he joined AC Milan.

Essien is a Ghanaian national team player has 52 caps and has scored nine goals for his country.
