Wayne Mark Rooney was born on October 24, 1985 in Croxteth, Liverpool, England. He is a soccer player who plays as a striker for Manchester United and the England national team.
At the age of nine, Rooney joined the youth team of Everton, and he made his professional debut in 2002 at the age of 16 years. He spent two seasons at the Merseyside club, before moving to Manchester United for £ 25.6 million in the summer transfer window of 2004.
In the same year, Rooney gained the nickname "Wazza". Since then, with Rooney in the team, United have won the Premier League five times, once the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup once and the League Cup twice. In March 2014, Rooney scored his 212 goals for United, making him the third-highest scorer of all time for the club.
Rooney made his senior international debut in 2003, becoming the youngest player to represent England (a record broken by Theo Walcott). He played at UEFA Euro 2004 and scored four goals, becoming the youngest scorer in the history of the European Cup.
