Mateo Kovacic was born on May 6, 1994 in Linz, Austria. He is a soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Inter Milan and the Croatian national team.

He began his professional career with Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16 and won two league titles in a row with his team, before joining Inter Milan in 2013.

On January 31, 2013, Kovacic agreed to transfer to Internazionale for a fee of € 15 million in total, with € 13 million paid immediately and € 2 million when Internazionale qualified for the Champions League.

Giant teams such as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea FC also been claimed to be interested in Kovacic, but he eventually joined the Nerazzurri. Upon his arrival, Kovacic was given jersey number 10, previously worn by Wesley Sneijder. Kovacic made his debut for Internazionale on 3 February, came as a substitute in the first round of the Serie A match against AC Siena.

Kovacic played for the Croatian national team at various youth levels, debuting in May 2008 in a friendly against Slovakia U15. In 2011, he was a regular member of the Croatian U19 and U21 teams. In August 2012, Kovacic received his first call-up for the Croatian national football team matches against Switzerland, but did not play due to injury.
