Riccardo Saponara was born on December 21 1991 in Forli, Italy. He is a soccer player who plays as a midfielder for AC Milan in Serie A Italy.

Saponara started his soccer career at Ravenna in 2009-2010. He then moved to Empoli in 2010 and played for the club for three seasons. On January 21, 2013, Milan signed him when he was 21 years of Empoli on the condition that he remain at Empoli until the end of the season.

At first, Saponara played as a winger but Empoli manager Maurizio Sarri moved him into a central position behind the strikers in Serie B 2012/13 season with spectacular results when he grabbed 13 goals and 15 assists in 40 appearances for the club. He led Empoli to Serie B for the promotion play-off final where they lost to Livorno.
